Quickest: delete it from the app
Open Byron → Profile tab → scroll to the bottom → Delete account → confirm. Same on iPhone and Android.
It happens straight away: your account and everything attached to it goes from our servers, and the copy on your phone is wiped. You don't need to fill in anything below, and nothing waits in a queue.
If you've already removed the app
Then we have to find your record for you, and that's harder than it sounds — Byron accounts are anonymous. There's no email address, password or name attached to one, so there is nothing to look you up by unless you tell us. Give us whatever you can remember below. Your display name is usually enough on its own.
Send this to byron@stupidhuman.dev
What gets deleted
All of it. There is no partial delete and nothing is held back:
- Your anonymous account itself, and your display name.
- Your satchel, your progress, your streak and your scores.
- Every daily word result of yours, and so your leaderboard entries.
- Your group memberships.
- Your notification token, if you had one.
- The record of how you played — app opens, collects, words solved. See the policy.
- The location-derived data described in the privacy policy — the coordinates of your last collection and the map squares you'd foraged.
Nothing is kept in a “deleted” state, there's no grace period, and it can't be undone. If you want your hoard back afterwards you start from scratch.
The one thing that survives
If you created a group that still has other members, the group carries on so their board keeps working — but your membership, your name and your scores are removed from it. A group left with nobody in it is deleted outright.
How long it takes
- In the app: immediately, while you watch.
- By request: we aim to reply within a few days, and we'll complete it within one month of identifying your account at the outside — the deadline the UK and EU right to erasure sets. In practice it's the same day we can be confident which account is yours.
Your other rights
Deletion is the one built into the app, but it isn't the only right you have. To ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to object to how it's used, email byron@stupidhuman.dev — the same address, and the same identification problem, so bring the same details. The privacy policy sets out what we hold and why.
